Learning and Development
The wellbeing of our staff is important to us and we work hard to ensure they are engaged, motivated and are able to enjoy a healthy work/life balance.
We’re always keen to hear from talented, ambitious and committed social work professionals. If from reading these pages, South Gloucestershire Council sounds like somewhere you’d like to work, we’ll provide you with the right training and support to help you perform to the best of your ability.
Continuing Professional Development Offer
Supporting the most vulnerable in our society is a top priority for South Gloucestershire Council and so, even at a time of significant financial austerity for Local Authorities, the council continues to invest in learning and development support for our staff. We passionately believe that investing in our people is key to helping them provide practice-led services that are focused on achieving the best outcomes for our most vulnerable residents.
We have summarised the continuing professional development resources and services that staff can access, a link to the full document can be found at CPD Offer
Linked Scale / Extended Grade Posts
As part of our commitment to retaining and developing our professionally qualified staff, we have developed a linked grade scheme to enable social care staff in children’s services to progress to a Hay 6 Advanced grade without moving away from their existing area of work.
This scheme includes all of those working as a Hay 7 Social Worker in Integrated Children’s Services and all of those working as a Hay 7 Lead Professional in the 0-25 Disability Service (including those from a Social Work, Special Educational Needs or Occupational Therapy background).
The Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE)
Social work can be a challenging profession, especially for those new to the role. The ASYE is a twelve month programme for supporting newly qualified social workers during their first year in employment, helping them to develop their skills, knowledge and professional confidence.
Step Up To Social Work
South Gloucestershire Council is actively supporting the Step Up To Social Work programme through our partnerships with local universities.
To find out what qualifications and experience you need to apply to Step Up to Social Work and other details about the course, full eligibility can be found here.
