We have implemented an innovative housing pilot offering priority social housing access for Children’s Social Worker and Team Managers moving to the area to take up employment with South Gloucestershire Council.
This means, if you meet the eligibility criteria, your application for housing will be given priority consideration, ensuring you feel secure and settled while starting your new career with South Gloucestershire Council.
This initiative is in addition to the standard relocation support package
How to apply
Once you have received a conditional offer of employment, referencing is complete and you have signed a contract, you should apply via the HomeChoice South Gloucestershire website
Upon submitting your application to the HomeChoice team, please email HRrecruitment@southglos.gov.uk to advise that you have applied through this process.
Eligibility Criteria
- The housing pilot is open to new applicants for Children’s Social Worker and Team Managers roles who are eligible for the relocation package. The housing offer will be in addition to the relocation package.
- Social housing can be either shared ownership, First Homes or from the direct match to an introductory tenancy leading to an assured tenancy. These options are ultimately assessed and offered by the Registered Provider who have their own criteria. Final offers are made by the landlord organisation and not by HomeChoice.
- There will be a household income ceiling of £60k per annum for a tenancy, based on the criteria of the largest social landlord in the district. This includes any maintenance/benefits/child benefit/investment income etc. This is assessed on the last full 12 months.
- Low cost home ownership options have their own household income criteria.
- Up to three offers of a social housing tenancy rent will be made.
- Where the person takes up the offer of a tenancy, they are expected to sign up to the tenancy when the property is ready to let. From that time, they become liable for the rental charges.
- If interim accommodation is required, the costs will be met from the relocation package. Where the costs go beyond the relocation package, the person will be expected to cover the costs from their own resources.
- While they are in interim accommodation, further settled housing is sought either by the candidate making their own arrangements if they wish, or from an offer of suitable social housing, subject to this being available.
