Getting to work

With excellent road and rail links, South Gloucestershire is one of the best connected areas in the country.

Our social care teams are co-located with OTs at offices in Kingswood and Yate, both easily accessible from Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Wales. As we are situated so close to Bristol, many of our staff choose an urban lifestyle, living in the city, whilst having an easy journey to work, travelling against the flow of commuting traffic. Equally, South Gloucestershire also has a number of villages and quiet towns providing those looking for a more unhurried pace of life with easy access to countryside and green, open spaces.

Many of our staff travel to work by train with mainline stations at Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway, whilst those commuting by road from further afield can easily get to work via local junctions off the M4 and M5.

As well as an easy commute to work, we can also offer less time spent travelling for work. South Gloucestershire is not an especially large district, but by splitting our long term social care teams geographically, we’ve brought individual teams closer to the children and families they work with, reducing the time they spend travelling to visits. Social workers must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle for work.

Our staff say...

We’re encouraged to ask questions about ‘how we do things’ – there’s a genuine openness to creativity and innovation.

What really comes across is how managers really understand your cases. Everyone from the team managers right up to the head of service are social workers.

We’re busy but have realistic caseloads. We’re given the time and resources to think creatively about the best options for individuals.

The training on offer is fantastic, but more than that, I’ve found that there’s a genuine interest in individuals

When I go to work, I know that I am making a real, long-term difference and I’m not being asked to cover over issues with a sticking plaster.
